The Ashford Club is a branch of the British Beekeeping Association (BBKA), which unites like minded clubs and individuals, in order to promote the latest beekeeping news, methods and practices. We have a monthly Newsletter which keeps members informed as to what is going on in the Club and updates to this will appear on the Newspage on this website.
Members come to the Club in order to make new friends, share their passion for beekeeping, their ideas and stories and enable them to socialise in a harmonious beekeeping environment.
The meetings are free for anyone to come along; we welcome both members and non-members alike. In the Winter months on a Friday evening, we have monthly talks, meetings and raffles at St Mary's Community Centre in Rylands Road, Kennington, Ashford. These are usually followed by the obligatory chat over tea, coffee and biscuits!
During the months of April through to September, we meet at monthly intervals on a Saturday, or Sunday at the Apiary site in Sevington, Ashford (see find us page for details). Here we keep three working hives, which are opened and worked in a practical group, in order to familiarise in a supervised and safe environment. Protective equipment can be borrowed from the Club for this purpose. Please remember, the Apiary is located in a field, so it is best to wear appropriate footwear!
We twin with a Club from Germany and have a bi-annual exchange with their Club members. We also have a friendly outdoor Summer barbeque and a Christmas meal, which is usually held in a local pub.
